LM3424: Lm3424

Part Number: LM3424

i am using lm3424 led driver for solar street light application , in buck boost topology i have used 33uH inductor its making more noise when the light is not connected to LED driver and some times its not taking full load means LED light is not turn on completely , and its drawing more current from the battery .

Vin=16.8 V

Vout= 40V

frequency=300kHz

and Led current =1.2A

LED fixture voltage =36V

please suggest any changes in LED driver for reducing inductor noise and input drawing current.please check the  attached schematicevol_hw_sch_dev_ssl_v0_3_zig.pdf

  • I assume the noise that you are talking about is audible noise.  Is this correct?  The audible noise is cause by the load and being connected and tripping the over voltage (OVP) circuitry.  The frequency of the OVP tripping is in the audible range and that is will you can hear it.

    The second part is where you the LED is not turning on completely.  When and how does this happen?  If it happens with a battery and if you replace the battery with a lab power supply with appropriate input voltage does it still happens?  We will need more information and scope captures of the input voltage along with output voltage and LED currenton from you when this happens.

  • Hi Rudra,

    I have not heard back from you so I believe we may have solved the issue.  The thread will close now but will re-open if you need more information and reply.

    Thanks
