TPS61200 IC burning out frequently.

I am using TPS61200 IC for battery o/p regulation. I have made connections as given in the datasheet. But I am encountering frequent burning out of the IC when I connect 3.7v, Li-On battery(2.8Ah).

Below is the snapshot of the schematics.

Please help me out with this problem !

Most failures of these ICs are layout related. Be sure that you followed the layout guidelines in the datasheet. You can order the EVM for a known good layout to test on.

Also, note that R1 and R6 set an output voltage of around 3.2V. This might be below your input voltage. If you need a buck-boost converter instead, I would direct you to the TPS630x0 family.

Thanks a Lot.We will try with the recommended layout.

Also one more thing i wanted to know is that all the ICs(tps61200) upon failure tends to short out the vbatt with the gnd terminal, Does that indicate a different problem?? i have thoroughly tested the schematic and i am sure that the schematic is correct, the same schematic with a different layout was working fine.

The short is likely from L to GND, shorting through the inductor. This would indicate a failure of the low side MOSEFT which is common when poor board layouts are used.

Thanks.That explained the problem.

Are there any other pin compatible ICs that are avaliable?? maybe a 3.3V linear regulator.I need to get the Current Board to work very urgently.
