LDO Load Test Output Current is coming more than output current Capacity

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TLV1117LV

Hi,

I am performing the load test for an LDO(5-1.5V) output current capacity of 1A.

When I set the ELOAD current to 1.5A I can see that both input and output voltage are dipping, but I am getting an output current of 1.3A.

May I know is it possible or not.

May I know is there any parameter called "Over load current" exists for LDO.

Please find the attached image. CH2-Output Current,CH3-I/P voltage,CH-4 O/P Current.

Regards

Hari

  • Hi Hari,

What is the part number that you are testing?
  • Hi Kevin,
It is not a TI part. Could you please tell me why it is showing like that. Some of your General views. And also is there any parameter called overload
    current rating for an LDO.
    Regards
    Hari
  • Hi Hari,

Unfortunately, I can't comment on what features a competitor's part may or may not have or if it is working properly.

For information regarding Texas Instruments LDOs, there are several resources.

First, an example of a TI LDO which supports 5V -> 1.5V conversion up to 1A is the TLV1117LV. It has a current limit of 1.1 A which is described in our datasheet.

The LDO Quick Reference Guide also includes some definitions of features available on TI's LDOs:

    Or the LDO solution guide:

If you decide to use one of TI's LDOs, feel free to ask additional questions. I would recommend starting a new thread so that the post goes to the LDO forum.
