TPS65919-Q1: Is there any method to evaluate power-up operation with processor before customized OTP sample releases?

Guru 29690 points
Part Number: TPS65919-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS65917-Q1, TPS65917EVM

Hi Team,

I understood "the power-up and power-down sequences are only stored in OTP memory, and therefore cannot be changed" according to the following thread.
https://e2e.ti.com/support/power_management/pmu/f/200/p/666574/2452940

Is there any method to evaluate power-up operation with processor which my customer considers to use with TPS65919-Q1 before customized OTP sample releases?
Should my customer wait until customized OTP sample releases?

Best Regards,

  • Yaita-san,
I have forwarded your question to the product group to help you.
  • Yaita,

if you have an EVM, you can turn it on and then disable the outputs. Next, connect the device to the processor. Then, using a script or MSP firmware, you can program the device to turn on in the order you would like.

Note, when you turn on the EVM, the device will power up in its already configured sequence. That is why you connect the processor after the PMIC is on and the outputs are disabled. Also, if writing a script, the sequence will be slower that if using MSP firmware or the preprogrammed start up sequence.

Please let me know if you have additional questions.

    Thanks,
    Nastasha
  • Hi Natasha-san,

    Thank you for your support.

Could you tell me which timing is "slower"?
Does it mean time delay between each SMPS/LDO power-ups as the following?
Is it possible to adjust the time delay? (It is ideal for my cusotmer to adjust the delay.)

  • Yaita-san,

If you write a script, there will likely be a minimum of around 10ms between each rail starting up, as you are limited by the speed of the computer. If you write firmware on the MSP, the processor can directly send the power up commands and will be in the range of 100s of us. Then, in the firmware, you can adjust the delay as you would like.

  • Hi Natasha-san,

Thank you for your kind support.

I would like to confirm one more.
It seems there is no EVM for TPS65919-Q1.
Do you have any suggestion to get TPS65919-Q1 EVM?

    Best Regards,
    Yaita

  • Yaita-san,

The TPS65917-Q1 EVM works for the TPS65917 and TPS65919 device.

    Thanks,
    Nastasha
  • Hi Natasha-san,

    Thank you for your support.
I understood using TPS65917EVM and just replacing TPS65917-Q1 to TPS65919-Q1 is satisfied.
However TPS65917-Q1 has thermal pad so it is difficult to replace.

Do you refer replacing isn't required?

    Best Regards,
    Yaita

  • Yaita-san,

You don't have to replace the IC. You can turn off SMPS5 and LDO3 of the TPS65917-Q1 to evaluate (these two rails are not included in TPS65919-Q1).

    Thanks,
    Nastasha
  • Thank you Nastasha-san,
    I understand it.
