TPS23754: TPS23754 - efficiency data between sync and non-sync in Flyback topology

Part Number: TPS23754
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: PMP11254, PMP8812

Dear E2E,

Could you help to share the efficiency data between sync and non-sync in Flyback topology?

BR,

Jason

  • Hi Jason,

It really depends on the output voltage; also it depends on the synch topology (driven synch flyback vs self driven flyback) when comparing to non-synch.

For example a 12V non synch solution will have similar efficiency as 12V self driven flyback. This is why in our current PoE TI Design library, there is no 12V self driven flyback (its lower BOM count to do non synch and get good efficiency like in PMP11254).

However, if comparing to a driven synch flyback, the efficiency can be 1% higher like in PMP8812.

For lower output voltages (5V), the efficiency gets better with as you go from diode, to self-driven, to driven flybacks. Below shows an accurate comparison between the topologies.
