TPS23754: TPS23754 - request a workaround method to make TPS23754 operated in lower than 30V condition

Part Number: TPS23754
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS23756, , TPS23756EVM

Dear E2E,

How to configure tps23754 to operate it in below 30V condition?

We know that it is a non-standard case, but we have some of specially case PSE output voltage will lower than 30V and we want to make sure customer's product can work at this condition.

BR,

Jason

  • Hi Jason,

While this is not compliant to the IEEE802.3 standard, I agreed there are some non-standard applications that place lower output voltages through the Ethernet cable.

For these applications, it is recommended to use the PPD functionality of the TPS23754 or TPS23756 (depending on how low the Ethernet voltage is). For 24V applications, TPS23754 is recommended while for 12V applications, TPS23756 is recommended. Note that the current limit of the PD does not change. As such, the max power will be VINx0.85A (lower system power).

A divider can be used, as shown in the datasheet, on the PPD pin to bypass the PoE UVLO and turn ON the internal pass FET when it is above the PPD1 threshold. Its EVMs TPS23754EVM-420 and TPS23756EVM have jumpers to test this PPD functionality.

    Regards,
