TPS2378: If connect Auxiliary Power adapter without using APD pin, What happens?

Part Number: TPS2378

Hello,

If customer connect Auxiliary Adapter power to TPS2378 without using APD pin (APD pin connected to RTN) during connected Power from Ethernet, what happens?

Can it be working properly because internal pass MOSFET does not turn off? or Can it get a damage?

And if customer connect Auxiliary Adapter power to TPS2378 without using APD pin (APD pin connected to RTN) during not powered, can it work?

Regards,

Nicky

  • Hi Nicky,
If connected like shown in the typical apps section of the datasheet and APD is pulled LOW the whole time, the higher of the input voltages will power the load. There should be no damage, either the diode bridge will turn OFF (reverse bias) or the aux diode will turn OFF (reverse bias).

For your last question, do you mean there is no PoE power and aux is connected (with APD LOW)? If so, then yes it will work.

    Regards,
    Darwin
