CSD87384M: CSD87384M - negative voltage strass rating on SW node

Part Number: CSD87384M

Dear E2E,

Please help to provide the negative voltage strass rating on SW node for CSD87384M.

BR,

Jason

  • Jason,

    Thanks for posting.
The main thing to remember is not to have the total voltage across the device exceed the rating of the maximum BVdss, in this case 30V.

There is no specific answer for negative voltage stress rating, this depends on the circuit conditions. The undershoot is caused during the turn off of HS Mosfet. The current through the parasitic inductance shoots up causing a negative voltage across it. This voltage can be even higher than the input voltage. This voltage adds up to the blocking voltage of the HS Mosfet. Overall Vds = Vin+Vparasitic. If this Voltage is higher than BVdss, the top side device reaches avalanche breakdown and the voltage is clamped by the device’s Zener diode. Depending on the duration of avalanche, repetitive operation can therefore degrade the device and might result in failure.
It should also be noted that the parasitic inductance of the our Power Blocks like the CSD87384M are minimal and this reduces the chance of the device breaking due to undershoot.

    Best Regards
    Chris
