UCD90160: Power Down and Fault handling Guide

Part Number: UCD90160

Hi,

In our design we have 5 power rails connected to UCD90160. The necessary power up sequencing is Rail 1 -> Rail 2 -> Rail 3 -> Rail 4 -> Rail 5.

While creating a .XML file in Fusion Digital Power Designer, we have specified Sequence on dependency as follows:

Rail 2 sequence on dependency: Rail 1

Rail 3 sequence on dependency: Rail 2

Rail 4 sequence on dependency: Rail 3

Rail 5 sequence on dependency: Rail 4

Question 1: Ideally the power off sequence should be Rail 1 <- Rail 2 <- Rail 3 <-Rail 4 <- Rail 5. That is, is the following correct?

Rail 4 sequence off dependency: Rail 5

Rail 3 sequence off dependency: Rail 4

Rail 2 sequence off dependency: Rail 3

Rail 1 sequence off dependency: Rail 2

Question 2: How should I configure the "Fault shutdown slave list"? For example, if Rail 3 goes off due to fault, which rails should be turned off and correspondingly which rails should I include in the list for rail 3? Do the power up or down sequences get triggered in case of such a fault?

Question 3: When I am switching off the board, the power to this IC is also going down. In that case how will the power down sequence be useful?

  • #1. yes it is correct

#2.  it is up to the system requestion. if rail 3 has fault and be shutdown, what rail do you want to shutdown? that's the setting to fulfil.

#3. A enough time should be provided for UCD to power down the rail in sequencing otherwise the rail will not be off in the desired order.

    Regards
