Have you tried cancelling the build as mentioned in the thread below?

Note that depending on the build action, it may not be cancelled immediately.

As you noticed, this is not currently possible. It is one or all (files). Though this would indeed make life easier in many cases. We can exclude a file or folder from a build... why not also also building of a single file or also a single folder? This sounds like a good enhancement that I will pass along

No, because that box no longer appears in CCS 10.  And the "progress" window wasn't visible either. 

Now that I know to look for it, I found how to bring it back to life, so I could press the red stop buttons.

I wouldn't expect it to halt immediately.  But stopping in the next minute or two is better than waiting half an hour.
