AM5728: IPC ex02messageQ run error:requested size is too big

Part Number: AM5728
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: SYSBIOS

Hi,

linux_SDK:ti-processor-sdk-linux-am57xx-evm-06.03.00.106-Linux-x86-Install.bin

rtos_SDK:ti-processor-sdk-rtos-am57xx-evm-06.03.00.106-Linux-x86-Install.bin

ubuntu:16.04.7

Customers follows the steps in the IPC Quick Start Guide and tranning video completely. When running app_host, only the first three messages can be sent and an error is reported.

He has tried to increse heap size, still the same error. Please help check.

  • Hi Nancy,

Do you also see the error if you run the test with IPU1 or IPU2 or DSP2?

    regards

    Suman

  • Hi,

    It's the same on DSP2.

  • Hi Nancy,

Can you please try with the pre-built binaries in the SDK filesystem, and check if the issue is reproducible even with those images or with the firmware images you built. Once you have booted, you can try the following steps:

    modprobe -r omap_remoteproc

    cd /lib/firmware

    ln -sf /usr/bin/ipc/examples/ex02_messageq/release/server_dsp1.xe66 dra7-dsp1-fw.xe66

    ln -sf /usr/bin/ipc/examples/ex02_messageq/release/server_dsp2.xe66 dra7-dsp2-fw.xe66

    ln -sf /usr/bin/ipc/examples/ex02_messageq/release/server_ipu1.xem4 dra7-ipu1-fw.xem4

    ln -sf /usr/bin/ipc/examples/ex02_messageq/release/server_ipu2.xem4 dra7-ipu2-fw.xem4

    modprobe omap_remoteproc

    cd /usr/bin/ipc/examples/ex02_messageq/release

    ./app_host DSP1 (or DSP2 or IPU1 or IPU2)

    regards

    Suman

  • Can you please try with the pre-built binaries in the SDK filesystem,

    Do you mean tisdk-rootfs-image?

Customer tried to built firmware under release folder, it still the same.

  • Hi Nancy,

Yes, the tisdk-rootfs-image-am57xx-evm.tar.xz filesystem. Just to be sure, here are my sizes and md5 checksums for the firmware files.

    root@am57xx-evm:/usr/bin/ipc/examples/ex02_messageq/release# ls -l

Also, can you please try to run the tests after changing the soft-links and rebooting the board?

    regards

    Suman

  • When testing tisdk-rootfs-image-am57xx-evm.tar.xz,please see below snapshots:

When using self-compiled app_host and pre-built server_dsp1.xe66, the same error occurs:

  • Hi Nancy,

Please run "ldconfig" and check if the undefined symbol issue goes away with your executable. The pre-built binaries should not have needed any, but I understand you are running this on a non-TI platform.

    regards

    Suman

  • Hi,

    Yes, it's non-TI platform.

  • Hi Nancy,

OK, that means you have your own U-Boot and Kernel dtsi as well. The TI SDK is setup for early-boot for certain processors, and has equivalent kernel dtsi modifications. If your U-Boot is not doing any early-boot, then these modifications should not be added/enabled.

    Couple of questions:

    1. Are you using the same memory carveouts as the TI platforms?

    2. Do you have access to a TI EVM where you can run this test?

If you are using your own FS for the libraries, you must build the new example against the same libraries as well.

    regards

    Suman

  • Hi,

Customer does not have TI EVM.

how can I check whether the same memory allocation as the TI platform is used?

The customer has tested SDK 04.03.00.05, which is normal.

  • Hi Nancy,

The examples in SDK 6.3 are functional as attested from a recent different thread, so need to identify what your customer is missing.

    e2e.ti.com/.../1026992

Will you be able to share the full kernel log?

    regards

    Suman

  • Hi Nancy,

This log looks decently clean. Can you also just check the following:

    1. Check the IPU1/2, DSP1/2 RSTCTRL and RSTST registers at U-Boot prompt (just want to make sure we are not having any early-boot feature)

    2. Can you list the device-tree properties for the remoteproc nodes (ls -l /proc/device-tree/<ipu or dsp paths>)?

    3. Can you see if the default firmware files on the bootup are the opencl firmware images?

    4. There should be messageq_single firmware images as well under the /lib/firmware/ipc folders. Just to ensure we have everything sane, please change the firmware softlinks to point to them, reboot the kernel and run the MessageQApp executable.

    MessageQApp 10 <1 or 2 or 3 or 4>.

    regards

    Suman

    2. There are no DSP or IPU under ls -l /proc/device-tree/

3.The default firmware is loaded at bootup, which is the firmware we manually bind

4.The customer uses the app_host compiled by himself, because the pre-compiled app_host is still the previous situation

  • Hi Nancy,

    1. The attached pictures are too small, but if I read them correctly, they are all in reset.

    2. The nodes are under /proc/device-tree/ocp. You can do 'ls -l /proc/device-tree/ocp/ipu*' and 'ls -l /proc/device-tree/ocp/dsp*'.

    3. Can you list the original default firmwares: ' ls -R /lib/firmware/' please?

    4. We will get back to the app_host, but please run the test I mentioned originally with messageq_single and using MessageQApp.

    regards

    Suman

    Where is MessageQApp?

  • Hi Nancy,

    2. These look ok and correct.

    3.  Can you also list what the softlinks for dra7-ipu1-fw.xem4, dra7-ipu2-fw.xem4, dra7-dsp1-fw.xe66 and dra7-dsp2-fw.xe66 are pointing to originally?

    4. MessageQApp is part of the SDK FS. You can find it under /usr/bin/.

I am confused a bit with your kernel log. You mentioned you are using 6.3 SDK, yet I see the Linux kernel version as 4.4 from your log. The Linux kernel version should be 4.19 with 6.3 SDK. Are you mixing and matching your Linux kernel and IPC firmwares?

    regards

I am confirming the version issue with the customer.

  • Hi Nancy,

OK, I see DSP1 is using messageq_single, DSP2 is using opencl-monitor, IPU2 is using MM and IPU1 is test_omx firmware images. Please change DSP2, IPU2 and IPU1 all to corresponding messages_single firmware images (/lib/firmware/ipc/<core-specific path>/messageq_single.<xem4 or xe66>), and reboot.

The syntax you used for MessageQApp is wrong. Please look through my earlier response for the correct syntax. Please also give the remoteproc trace output with messageq_single firmware images.
