AM4376: AM4376 & eMMC

Part Number: AM4376

We are looking at keeping an older design alive by changing the available memory,  We need to support 1GB of storage. The GPMC has a .5GB limit on Nand and as such we are looking at using eMMC.
Is there a list of supported eMMC devices, the MMC is at 4.3 and the current eMMC parts are 5.+
Are there any complications on using 5.+ parts with the AM4376?

Is there another recommended solution to increase memory?

thank you

  • There are many variables which need to be considered when selecting system components. Therefore, we not make component recommendations.

You will need to contact eMMC manufactures to confirm their 5.+ devices are backwards compatible to a host controller design for revision 4.3 of the eMMC standard.

You should also read and understand boot ROM requirements described in the MMC/SD Cards section of the TRM Initialization chapter if you plan to boot from eMMC.

  • Are there any MMC/SD parts compatible with the AM4376?  Are there any recommended parts that work with the AM4376?

Or is TI saying AM4376 does not have a feasible MMC solution

  • I suspect there are a lot of eMMC devices compatible with AM4376. I'm just saying it is up to you as the system designer to select an eMMC device that is backwards compatible to the older eMMc standard supported by AM437x. We do not make specific component recommendations.
