TMS320C6655: Emulator for DSP and its mating connector

Part Number: TMS320C6655

I am using TMS320C6655 processor in my project. I wanted to know which is the best emulator for this Processor and what should be the mating connector on my PCB. Is there any emulator which can be used with this Processor and has TI 60 pin connector?

  • Hello!

In our development we never used the trace capability, so we were just happy with 14-pin header we put across all our products. As to exact models, I'm afraid there are not that many options now. I can tell nothing about XDS200 as I never used it, and it might not fit your requirement for 60-pin header, though price is good. As to XDS560 class emulators, I have used Spectrum Digital XDS560v2 in their full form factor with USB, Ethernet and external power. This one can also mate with 60-pin header, like those on K2G evaluation board. Also I am using Spectrum Digital XDS560v2 LC Traveler, smaller form factor emulator with only USB port and power also over USB. Not sure whether it could mate 60-pin header, but other than that I am just happy with it.

Now sad side of the story. Spectrum Digital is out of business now, so if you see something in stock, grab immediately. BlackHawk site seems alive, so USB560v2 STM might be okay. My feeling is that one should consider whatever emulator is available in stock and buy one for daily work, one for the shelf. Telling that because after my XDS510 was broken, I could not find replacement for it, and clones on Chinese marketplaces are just fakes at closer look.
