TMS320DM6437: Do we have any expertise in house on this device to help support one of my customers?

Part Number: TMS320DM6437

Team,

I have an assigned customer asking for support on this old DSP. Specifically, they need help with examples and more detailed documentation on DM643x VPFE.

Anything we can support?

Thanks,

/ Wolfgang

  • Hello Wolfgang,

We have no design support for DM64x as per the product page.
    http://www.ti.com/product/TMS320DM6437

If they have a specific question they can ask, but most likely the best we can do is either point to documentation on the product page, or I can look through archived wiki pages to see if there are any that might be useful.

    Regards,

    Nick

  • Hi Nick,

Thank you for fast response. Understood about the limited support, I noticed that on the product page, and so has the customer.

    This is their request:

Unfortunately, the public documentation of DM643x VPFE is not covering all details about some features of the VPFE Previewer module, and we don't know how to set up two processing steps - noise filtering and non-linear luma enhancements (sharpening).  We were trying to find any relevant information or examples on Internet as well, but with no success.

Please, could you provide more detailed DM643x VPFE documentation, examples, or some specific info to mentioned functions?

I understand DM643x is very old and obsolete product but it’s still very important for us.

we are using TI DM6437 DSP in a lot of our legacy products. Because of the current shortage of some components that we use for the image processing, we decided to redesign the hardware and fully utilize the image pipeline (VPFE+Previwer+H3A+Histogram) - which replaces an unavailable component.

It seems we are quite successful. Nearly everything works for us well, but still, we see some issues regarding image quality we could improve - noise and blurred image.

    Many thanks and regards,

    / Wolfgang (EP FAE Sweden)

  • Hello Wolfgang,

I went through the wiki archives. These are the articles I found around AM64x video. AM35x and DM64x appear to have shared some SDK releases, so I also included an application note about AM35x VPFE in case it might be useful in understanding DM64x (Note, I have NOT checked to see if these parts implement VPFE the same in hardware or software).

For future readers: please note these wikis are provided as-is. There will be broken links. The content on these pages is no longer supported, and we cannot answer questions about information you get from the wiki pages.

  • Hi Nick,

Many THANKS for your efforts and fast response. It's highly appreciated.

I downloaded and forwarded the zip file to my customer, together with your comments regarding caveats on VPFE compatibility and broken links.

Closing this thread and wishing you a nice weekend!

    Thanks and regards,

    / Wolfgang
