AM3352: Can AM3352 use eMMC5.1 functionality ?

Part Number: AM3352

I'm investigating to use Western-Digital's eMMC (product number SDINBDG4-8G-I2). This eMMC supports eMMC5.1 interface (JESD84-B51 compatible).
According to AM3352's datasheet, it's described that "Complies With MMC4.3, SD, SDIO 2.0 Specifications".

I don't have enough knowledge of MMC specification.
Please let me confirm whether AM3352 can use eMMC5.1 functionality or not.
Especially, I'd like to use FFU (Field Firmware Upgrade) functionality of eMMC5.1 in order to upgrade firmware safely.

  • eMMC devices may be backwards compatible, you would need to confirm the Western Digital is backwards compatible with devices design to operate per the MMC4.3 standard.

I would not expect AM335x to support any hardware related functions defined in the newer revisions of the standard.  However, the device may be able to support the FFU function if it is implemented via a software function.  You would need to confirm FFU is purely a software feature and research the various software options available for AM335x to know if this can be supported.  Note: We always recommend customers build prototypes and confirm their system operates as expected across all operating conditions before ramping to production.

  • Thank you for reply.
I'll look into FFU more further.
