SK-AM64: Is there a Mechanical Drawing for SK-AM64

Part Number: SK-AM64

I didn't see any mechanical drawing included w. Schematic (PDF) or  Design Package.

(e.x. for getting key x,y coordinates of mounting holes, connectors, etc.)

Realize that the OBD+ package is there but would be more convenient to have something in PDF form to look at without finding and installing a gerber viewer.

BTW the README.txt included w. the design files doesn't mention what software is used,  the extensions .DSN and .BRD are pretty common so it's not clear

what opens them.

  • Hi Anthony,

I will add a mechanical design file to the package in the next few days.  Would a DXF be better for extracting mechanical data?

All of Sitara MPU EVMs are designed with the Cadence Allegro EDA package.  I'll make a note of this when we update the design file package.

  • Hi Mike,

Thanks!  So after posting  I tried the Altium viewer (online) first and then installed the free Cadence viewer.     The Cadence viewer though I found pretty difficult to just download and use as a casual user.  For example it took me a while to even figure out what the units were reporting (mm or mil).

There weren't dimensions drawn to the mounting holes, and the mounting holes were displayed with a symbol.. so it took a while to figure out what the coordinates were.   Also the measurements in the viewer are referencing a break-away tab so it would be a bit tricky to get them from the drawing as-is.

I couldn't find a measurement tool in the UI .. but I was able to move the cursor roughly over each symbol, try to center it, and then read the x,y off of the bottom pane.   A little dicey I guess if you're worried about being super accurate.

I think for casual use - most people would want PDF - so ex:

        - Mechanical Drawing in PDF

         - Printout of PCB layers in PDF

That would probably be extremely useful 90% of the time - just to 'check' or 'understand' something.

DXF for electronic format would be useful too, as this could be used as the basis for some additional CAD work.

You can probably guess I wanted to print some sort of case -- because there's components on the bottom side and don't like having them pushing onto desktop.  Although .. there also seem to be some indicator LEDs on the bottom side of the board - I have to figure out what these are for as if they need to be monitored it could get complicated.   But for that type of task DXF would be great.  I just think that PDF is sort of baseline.

Other feedback - I don't think the GERBER directory has gerber format files - it seems to only be the odb format.  I tried to find a free viewer capable of reading this format but struck out - maybe that's something to consider.  There was a $99 viewer - that was best I found but I didn't buy it.  Might be something to consider in terms of providing old school gerbers as well.

    I know that's a lot of ask ..

  • Hi Anthony,

Adding the standard GERBER artwork to the package will not be a problem.

I'll follow up with you offline to discuss the drawings.

    Mike
