TMDS243GPEVM: Evaluation Board is not switching on

Part Number: TMDS243GPEVM

Hi,

my TMDS243GPEVM suddenly stopped turning on.

it happened while i was debugging my app using CCS.

when I connect UART\JTAG cables, the expected leds are on.

when I connect the power, the expected leds are on.

when I turn the power switch to on nothing happens.

i tested the power supply cables from another working EVM and this didnt help.

is there anything i can do to try to debug this?

  • Hi Peter,

Can you ensure you are following the power on procedure outlined in the TMDS243GPEVM User's Guide, section 3.3.1, Power-On Procedure?  If this procedure does not work as expected, please provide details on how far you were able to get, and where your board is behaving differently than what is outlined in the document (such as which LEDs are not lit that are supposed to be, etc).

    Thanks,
    Mike

  • Hi,

yes, the power on procedure was followed...

none of the leds that suppose to be on when the switch is on is active.

in the sequence, the failure is during steps 5-6 when i am suppose to see the leds turn on.

  • Hi Peter,

Just to be clear, are you connecting UART/JTAG cables before the power adapter?  This particular EVM requires that power (following the appropriate sequence described in the User's Guide) be applied before the XDS110 (JTAG) connections are made.

    Thanks,
    Mike

  • i worked with the device for more than 2 weeks,

i would power on it when i was working on it and power off when finished,

so JTAG\UART would stay connected and powered most of the time while the power supply would be toggled when needed...

  • Peter,

Can you try disconnecting the JTAG when before powering on the board and then reconnecting?

This EVM does require that power be applied BEFORE connecting the JTAG to function reliably.  It may or may not work if JTAG is connected before apply power.  I suspect you may have just been lucky that it was working before.

    Thanks,
    Mike
