TMS320C6655: Ethernet/Ethercat

Part Number: TMS320C6655

Hi Team,

My customer‘s project require dual-channel network interface, and it seems that the multi-core C66X series devices are both 2-port 1Gb switch. Below are some questions, could you please help to give some comments?

1. My customer want to use one of 2-port 1Gb switchs to do the EtherCAT through the internal protocol stack, and the other one was normal Ethernet, and the communication between EtherCAT and the Ethernet ports was independently controlled and did not affect each other. So I would like to confirm with you if the 2-Port 1Gb Switch can be used like this?

2. For the DSP devices which can supports PCIe, whether it can be converted to Ethernet use? Or can only be converted to PCIe interface to communicate with the host? If it can convert to Ethernet, do we have the reference solution to the customer?

Thank you.

  • Hello Ivy

On 1 we do not have any solutions or feasibility study on ETHERCAT on c66x. EtherCAT is typically offered on our newer Sitara devices like AM64x and AM243x etc and many aspects of the protocols rely on PRU-ICSS .

On 2, while this maybe doable , we do not have any hardware or software reference to provide on these.

These are relatively older devices with no new software or reference designs planned, so if this is a new project or design I encourage you to look at newer devices like AM57x, AM6x or AM24x etc.

    Regards

    Mukul
