TDA4VM: How to Establish uart communication between R5 and A72?

Hi Yatheesha,

May I ask what your end-goal is? The UARTs are typically used to directly output from a core to a terminal, but not to talk between two cores. You need to use IPC for that.

If the idea is to get all the traces from all cores onto a single terminal, then the typical usage is to use shared memory, and have an application print out the traces. The Vision Apps has a logging facility like that. Please see,

If the idea is to establish communication between A72 and R5, then you would want to use the IPC API. Please see

Hi Suman,

Yes you are right, I need IPC communication. But which is to sync with uart data of the different cores.

Here I want to know mainly 4 things,

1> How to Enable uart and Program uart tx and rx in core R5

2> How to Enable/Program IPC communication in R5

3> How Enable uart and write code for uart tx and rx in core A72(QNX)

4> How Enable/Program IPC communication in A72

For example Divice X is communicating to R5 core and Device Y is communicating to A72, and what ever data getting from X is to be transferred to Y and vice versa.

So please guide me to do this. Also provide me related docs/links of tools that can be used for this.

It's still not clear to me whether it's just a case of synching traces between different cores, or if you want like a console facility to execute some commands on a remote processor.

Please see the above links provide the details on the IPC API (for #2 and #4).

You can look at the PDK UART module and the corresponding driver API for details on UART on R5

Can you help me for the following?

1> To log the printf() in each core (R5 and A72).

2> To read UART data in each core (R5 and A72) and log the data.

I need to see the logs from both cores. So that later I can merge this to make the IPC mechanism to communicate between cores.

I tried to run Vision Apps's IPC example, but it stuck with dhcp connection time out. Can you give me solution to do static network configuration with gateway and mask in QNX?

What SDK version are you using? Make sure you are using the same SDK versions for QNX and RTOS.

I believe you are running on the TI EVM. The Vision Apps example is verified on TI EVM and SDKs.

Hi Suman, 

I am using all version 7.1 and Vision app examples I able to run, dhcp time out is coming randomly and is independent of IPC, So Vision Apps's IPC example are working now. I tried to run UART_TestApp example, but I am unable to get command for running that in QNX (like ipc_test for IPC example). Can you help on this?
