TMS320C6657: Interface ADC3563 to TMS320C6657

Hi Team, 

Our customer would like to use the ADC3563 with TMS320C6657 but the ADC data output uses LVDS interface. I understand that our ADC with LVDS output are connected to high speed data capture card such as TSW1400 evaluation module which contains an FPGA. Is it possible to interface the ADC3563 directly to TMS320C6657? If not, can he connect an FPGA between ADC3563 and TMS320C6657 through the Universal Parallel Port?

    Hello Danilo

    If the ADC only has LVDS interface , no SPI etc, then it is not possible to directly hook that up to c6657. As you noted an FPGA is needed in between. 

    I would not recommend uPP as our software and support story is not very robust on this. UPP interface is only available on 2-3 devices in the processor family and while some customers have used it successfully , for a new development, it can be a challenge for customer to develop, as we do not have any software drivers, reference designs etc for this. 

    To hook to an FPGA they can potentially rely on traditional interface like PCIe (which maybe expensive) or just use EMIF16 parallel interface.

    Thank you very much for your response. I will suggest to our customer to interface the ADC3563, FPGA and TMS320C6657 via EMIF16 interface.
