AM6442: SR1.0 Powering with PMIC

Part Number: AM6442
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS6521855, TPS51206, TPS65218, TPS6521815

Our customer wants to start designing a prototype board with the AM6442 SR1.0.

The following application note provides a solution using one or two PMICs.

Powering the AM64xx With the LP8733xx PMIC
www.ti.com/.../slvaes0.pdf

Can the one PMIC solution be applied for AM6442 SR1.0?

Can the one PMIC solution be applied when using two 8-Bit DDR4 devices?

Our customer may use the two PMIC solution because they want to use multiple Ethernet with both CPSW3G and PRU_ICSSG.

Can the two PMIC solution be applied for AM6442 SR1.0?

TPS6521855 needs to be reprogrammed for DDR4 memory use.

Is there a TPS65218xx programmed for DDR4 memory? If so, what is the part number?

Can the two PMIC solution be applied when using two 8-Bit DDR4 devices?

The VPP rail of the DDR4 memory can be supplied 2.5 V by DCDC4 of the TPS6521855.

Can the VDDS_DDR and the VDD/VDDQ rail of the DDR4 memory be supplied 1.2 V by DCDC1 of the TPS6521855.

Does the VTT rail of the DDR4 memory need to be supplied by adding TPS51206?

What other differences are there between using DDR4 and LPDDR4 in the two PMIC solution?

Best regards,

Daisuke

  • Hi Daisuke,

I am looking into this and will follow up soon.

  • Hi Daisuke,

My answers are in bullet-lines below:

    • Can the one PMIC solution be applied for AM6442 SR1.0?
      • Yes – it was tested with 1.0 silicon
    • Can the one PMIC solution be applied when using two 8-Bit DDR4 devices?
      • Yes the one solution should work
    • Our customer may use the two PMIC solution because they want to use multiple Ethernet with both CPSW3G and PRU_ICSSG.
    • Can the two PMIC solution be applied for AM6442 SR1.0?
      • It should work
      • This is implemented on the AM64 SK
        • LP8764xx and TPS65218 are recommended for the two PMIC solution
    • TPS6521855 needs to be reprogrammed for DDR4 memory use.
      • Correct
      • Need to reprogram DCDC1 from 1.1V to 1.2V
    • Is there a TPS65218xx programmed for DDR4 memory? If so, what is the part number?
      • For AM64 the only solution requires reprogramming, TPS6521855
      • TPS6521815 is the variant that comes with blank EEprom
    • Can the two PMIC solution be applied when using two 8-Bit DDR4 devices?
      • It should work, TI recommends the one PMIC solution however.
        • This was validated by TI engineers under stress conditions
    • The VPP rail of the DDR4 memory can be supplied 2.5 V by DCDC4 of the TPS6521855.
      • Yes
    • Can the VDDS_DDR and the VDD/VDDQ rail of the DDR4 memory be supplied 1.2 V by DCDC1 of the TPS6521855.
      • Yes, although needs to be reprogrammed from 1.1V to 1.2V
    • Does the VTT rail of the DDR4 memory need to be supplied by adding TPS51206?
      • It was designed with an emphasis for DDR4 memory
    • What other differences are there between using DDR4 and LPDDR4 in the two PMIC solution?
      • LPDD4 memory requires 1.1V and 1.8V
        • 1 is DCDC1, 1.8 DCDC3
      • DDR4 memory requires 1.2V and 2.5V
        • DCDC1 needs reprogrammed.

  • Hi Colin-san,

    Thank you for your reply.

Our customer will design with the one PMIC solution.

    Best regards,

    Daisuke
