AM3352: ADC-ENERGY-METROLOGY-LIB-SW support?

Part Number: AM3352
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ADC-ENERGY-METROLOGY-LIB-SW

Hi,

I want to know will the ADC-ENERGY-METROLOGY-LIB-SW can be used for AM3352 Processor? It seems it is MSP430 or Cortex M4 friendly.

Also Can this library be used in conjunction with OS or RTOS?

  • Hello,

I am from the AM335x team. This software was not developed for the AM335x. However, we do have an on-chip ADC in the AM335x, and there are other options for connecting ADCs to the AM335x.

If you want more information about ADC-ENERGY-METROLOGY-LIB-SW, let us know and I will send your thread to the appropriate team to comment.

    Regards,

    Nick

  • Hi Nick,

Yes there is an internal ADC in AM335x, however what I understood from the documentation is that if we use the ADC-ENERGY-METROLOGY-LIB-SW then it makes the metering certification & associated energy calculation bit easier probably with external adc. It is been used for 0.2% accuracy. Fundamentally I want to avoid external Metering IC, MSP430F67xx or even possible external ADC. AM335x gives me Ethernet and OS compatibility which I feel is difficult on MSP430F67xx metering SOC.

So if you think we can still do the energy meter grade measurement using internal ADC on AM335x, please suggest. (by the way the internal ADC spec seems impressive)

If not I guess only option is to use external ADC or Metering MSP430F6xx SOC, in that case please connect me to the respective team that works with ADC-ENERGY-METROLOGY-LIB-SW and let us see what devices they use or what specialty this library has.

Is there any reason we can't port this library to AM335x?

  • Hello,

Since the AM335x team has not worked with the metrology software, we cannot comment on whether it can be ported to other Linux processors or platforms with ADCs within the processor instead of external to the processor. If you do decide to port the software, our team will not be able to support your porting effort.

You can find more information about the AM335x Linux ADC driver here:
    https://software-dl.ti.com/processor-sdk-linux/esd/docs/07_03_00_005/linux/Foundational_Components/Kernel/Kernel_Drivers/ADC.html

I am sending your thread over to the MSP430 team to see if they have any additional comments.

    Regards,

    Nick
