AM6411: No audio support by AM64x

Part Number: AM6411
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: OMAPL138, TDA4VM

Hi Champ

I could not find McASP or other audio related interface from AM64x.

Could you please check if AM64x does not support Audio ?

Thanks.

Regards,

Jack

  • Hi Jack,

Correct - AM64x does not have McASP.

Depending on the audio requirements, the PRU may be able to perform I2S protocol. I'm looking for a good example of this. Can you share the use case?

If its audio output, PWM might be an option.

  • Hello Mark.

Customer has used DM8168 and OMAPL138 for their application for long time.

Now they're trying to design a new system with newer MPU for Disaster broadcasting system. (http://www.onecast.co.kr/).

Audio playback is mandatory. If they need to implement the audio function via PRU, I supposed they would refuse if the processor SDK does not provide the example demo.

I think they need a chipset which has similar architecture. It maybe AM572x and also TDA4VM for AI-Robot related project.

    Thanks.

    Regards,

    Jack

  • If Linux is used, a simple USB codec might be the easiest solution? It will add to the cost. but not as much as the higher-end SoC you have mentioned, or a simple I2S codec that might be needed too.
