TMS320C6454: Core Voltage versus CPU Frequency

Part Number: TMS320C6454

The C6454 comes in three speed grades (720MHz, 850MHz, and 1GHz). The datasheet lists the nominal core voltage as 1.20V for the 720MHz and 850MHz speed grades and 1.25V for the 1GHz speed grade. Is it okay to run the 1GHz speed grade with nominal core voltage of 1.20V if the CPU is run at maximum 850MHz? In other words, can the faster speed grade part be used as a substitute in a lower speed grade application without adjusting the core voltage?

Thanks,

Stuart

  • Yes. This operating condition will not cause any problems since you are operating the device at a lower performance point than it was verified to operate.

You should verify your OS doesn't detect the higher speed grade device and turn up the speed assuming the system is applying the higher OPP core voltage.
