TMS320C6727: Follow up to "Future Compiler Support"

Part Number: TMS320C6727

Hi,

I am one of the third-parties alluded to in the thread:

https://e2e.ti.com/support/processors-group/processors/f/processors-forum/1096910/tms320c6727-future-compiler-support/4062831

The macOS build of the v7.4.24 CGT (non-CCS) tools is an i386 build. Unfortunately, as a result, that will not run on any version of macOS newer than 10.14 (Mojave) which is now 4 years old. In particular, this means that the tools cannot be run on pretty much any currently shipping machine based on Apple Silicon.

Is it possible for that toolchain to be rebuilt as x86_64 as that would allow it to be run on current versions of macOS and current machines.

Newer versions of the CGT tools (e.g. ti-cgt-c6000_8.3.1 and newer) were built for x86_64 and are usable, but unfortunately they no longer support C6727 which is required to support the platform we are building software for.

So it is a bit of a catch-22...

C6727 development is not supported on macOS.  While there is a version of the compiler that runs on older versions of macOS, the other C6727 development tools and software (SDK) are not available for macOS.

There are no plans to do an updated version of the 7.4 C6000 Compiler toolchain for macOS x64 or Arm.  Development for C6727 should be done on Windows or Linux.  Current versions of CCS do have support for C6727, but you will still need to install the older 7.4 compiler.

    Regards,

    John
