Hi,

I am developing for application where we need to run RTOS on the MCU island and have some applications running on the A72 core. We need to communicate the MCU island some messages from the A72 cores running linux and back. Here are few of the questions

1. Is it possible to flash the MCU island separately on this board and run RTOS, and how?

2. If possible how to establish communication between linux and MCU island.

Unfortunately, we only support running the Edge AI SDK on SK-TDA4VM. Please reference this FAQ about the differences between the available boards for TDA4VM: https://e2e.ti.com/support/processors-group/processors/f/processors-forum/1083612/faq-tda4vm-what-is-the-difference-between-sk-tda4vm-and-the-j721e-evm

If developing RTOS application, we would be able to provide support on the EVM board but not the SK board: https://www.ti.com/tool/J721EXSOMXEVM

1. So does that imply that the MCU island is also not accessible to program application for communicating with the A72 core?

2. Also, what is the purpose of the MCU island on this board?

Hi Sarthak,

1. The MCU island can communicate with A72 core. Technically, SK-TDA4VM is using the same SoC as the J721E EVM and can theoretically be used for RTOS applications. However, there will be minimal support from TI when using SK-TDA4VM to develop such application, because we do not test and guarantee the full functionality of PSDK RTOS on SK-TDA4VM.

2. I would recommend looking at Introduction 1.0 -> Device MCU Domain 1.4 in the TRM: https://www.ti.com/lit/zip/spruil1.
