TMS320C6742: EMIFA Nand Flash Memory Capacity

Hi Team,

Would it be possible to connect a 8GB NAND flash memory to the TMS320C6742? We've seen the supported NAND flash of the bootloader (spraat2f) but is there any limitation on the EMIFA module which limits the maximum NAND flash capacity?

Hello Sreenivasa,

Apologies. What I meant was the spraat2f document shows the NAND devices supported by the bootloader would be up to 256MB only. Is this the same case for the NAND flash supported by external memory interface? Or can our customer use a 8GB NAND flash memory?

Our customer would like to use the NAND flash memory to store samples from some ADCs, to later on be downloaded and processed off-board.

Hi Sreenivasa,

Thank you for your response. Our customer would like to develop a custom board that would be based on theTMS320C6742.They are requesting 8GB of memory for samples storing. They're thinking they could connect a Micron MT29F to the EMIFA bus (e.g. MT29F64G08A), but they wanted to be sure that this would be compatible with TMS320C6742. Could you help us check it? Thank you!

Thank you for the query. I understand from the below table and part number that customer is looking for 64G.

They're thinking they could connect a Micron MT29F to the EMIFA bus

Could you request customer to provide details on the analysis done. We do not seem to have interfaced to 64Gb flash to confirm on the usability.

Hello,

Since NAND Flash is not directly addressable (you have to issue a "program command" with the address written out on the data bus), there should be no limit from the SoC side on how large the external flash can be.
