TDA4VM: TDA4VM Thermal Reset Issue

Part Number: TDA4VM

Hello TI Supporters,

The reset issue is observed with our custom TDA4VM88 board during the Thermal Test.

Basic information:

(1) HW: TDA4VM with custom board

(2) SDK: R07.03

The observation:

1.  The test case in environment temperature (around 27℃)

Test setup: TDA4VM without Heat Sink

Test process:

(1) Set the Thermal Reset threshold by register 0x42050010 (Value 0x2e60305, 120℃/125℃);

(2) Read out TDA4VM temperature by register 0x42040308

(3) Read out TDA4VM reset reason by Reset Source Register 0x43000050

Observation

  • TDA4VM reset 13 minutes later
  • the temperature before reset is 0x2E2 = 119.55℃ (Register 0x42040308 = 0x00020ae2)
  • the reset source register 0x43000050 is 0x01000000 (THERMAL_RST = 1)

Conclusion

TDA4VM reset due to over temperature

2. Test Case in Temperature Box

Test setup:

(1) TDA4VM with housing Cover for Cooling

(2) Set the Temperature Box to 85℃

Test process and Observation:

(1) Set the Thermal Reset threshold by register 0x42050010 (Value 0x2e60305, 120℃/125℃);

(2) Read out TDA4VM temperature by register 0x42040308

(3) Read out TDA4VM reset reason by Reset Source Register 0x43000050

(4) Measure TDA4VM power supply (PMIC output)

Observation:

  • Reset  is observed around 30 minutes later
  • the TDA4VM temperature is around 110℃ by register 0x42040308
  • the reset source register 0x43000050 is 0x00000000 (no reset source set)
  • No Power shutdown is observed by PMIC output measurement

Questions:

(1) Are these registers we set/observe correct and enough? Is there any other register that needs to be configured or monitored?

(2) No over temperature and Power supply shutdown is observed, and all the reset source bits are not set. How can we check the reset reason? Are there other investigation directions?

Thanks and regards.
