AM3352: "WARNING: suspicious RCU usage" in dmesg

I get the following error on ti-linux-kernel v08.04.01.002 (based on v5.10.136) compiled with no modifications beyond my defconfig and dts.  The hardware is an Olimex AM3352-SOM which is very similar to the EVM design.

    The latest Processor SDK for AM335x is v8.2.0.24. Do you see the same problem with this SDK version?

    I don't the kernel v8.4.1.2 has been validated on AM335x yet.

    In the meantime I had also been seeing this in dmesg. I'm not using the PRU so I attempted to disable it using the changes below in my dts.

    I have rebooted several times and while I still see the "omap_intc_handle_irq: spurious irq!" I have not yet seen the "suspicious RCU usage" error since changing the DTS.

  • On https://git.ti.com/cgit/ti-linux-kernel/ti-linux-kernel/refs/ I do not see a tag for 8.4.1.2 - the closest I see is 08.02.00.006.

  • You mentioned 8.4.1.2 (08.04.01.002) in your first post. I didn't check if it is valid tag.

  • My apologies - yes 08.04.01.002 which is what I was testing. What I meant to say is I can't find any tag called 08.02.00.024 however there is 08.02.00.006.

  • 08.02.00.024 is the Processor SDK version for AM335x, it uses kernel tag 08.02.00.006. Sorry for the confusion.

  • Building from tag 8.2.0.6 does not exhibit the "Suspicious RCU usage" message.  Thanks for your help!

    Of note, I still see this:  It seems random and not related to any hardware interaction at least.  I only see it once, at some point after boot.  Should I be concerned?

    Without knowing details, I think it is difficult to say if the spurious irq message can be ignored or not.

    I recommend you continue working on your project and keep an eye on this message, and testing all the functions required in your project to see if everything works as expected.
