SK-AM62: how do I know if my sk-62 is am62-sk or am62-sk-lp ?

it's proc114E3. what is the ram on this? how do I solve that boot problem?

SK-LP are not yet available for customers to order, so  you likely have the latest version of the SK-AM62 ,with DDR4. 

BTW I see that you seem to be trying to develop no RTOS, bare metal on AM62 , leveraging older sdks

I urge you to be very careful undertaking this journey. We currently do not support Free RTOS/ bare metal development on Cortex A53s on RTOS and will not offer USB , Ethernet drivers for the M4 core. Our ability to support you on this non standard software model will be very limited. 

Current AM62 software is linux on A53 cores and Free RTOS on M4 core for the peripherals within the MCU SS and a few additional peripherals in the main domain. 

Trying to develop USB drivers from the grounds up for AM62 , in bare metal  for A53, will not be something that we will be able to support .

Yes, I totally understand that, I'll try to get as much as possible from the SDK of other processors and this forum but I understand that there is no support for RTOS on am62 yet. we are working on a very interesting project in our company and we'll open-source it, hopefully, it will attract more people to use TI processors and products in general...

Just did not want you to get disappointed if our ability to support what you are under taking is limited given the non standard approach. 

Might try to connect you offline , to understand what your project is all about, if you would be willing to share.

to boot Linux on AM62x SK EVM? This is the typical process most Linux customers follow and it doesn't require MCU+ SDK.

I'm following this tutorial: Flash a Hello World example sdk 8.04.00 (available with the download of mcu+sdk)

I assume you have put it there for people to use if not, why put it there in the first place?

I'm not interested in booting Linux per se, I'm trying to learn the multi-stage boot process and wondering why it doesn't work.

If you want to go with the MCU+ SDK route, I will re-assign your query to our MCU+ SDK team for comments. I am in the team supporting Linux-only.

I also tried writing to EMCC by using the default_sbl_emcc_linux.cfg. In this case the error seems to be different (attached below). ( i used the flash writer using uart to write different sbl stages)

I think (at least one) problem in both cases (OSPI and EMCC) is that we're not writing everything. like we need to also provide uboot.img and linux kernel image. but with the current configuration, we're not doing that.
