TMS320C6454 DSP Gigabit EMAC doubts

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TMS320C6454

Hi,

I am using TMS320C6454 DSP in my design

I have few doubts

1.What is the real Gigabit Ethernet throughput of C645x DSP( from DSP to PC application).Could you send me the test report?

2.Does GMII port in C645x DSP is 3.3V compliant?

3.Which gigabit EMAC interface (GMII or RGMII ) is better in terms of throughput, performance and  EMI/EMC compatability?

4.Could you suggest Gigabit PHY chips comaptable with C645x DSP?

Thanks
Renjith
  • Welcome to the TI Engineer-to-Engineer Community. As you move forward with your project, it will be helpful to the Community when you share your successes and problems. Everyone will benefit from your experiences.

To find the latest documentation on the C6454, and similarly for any TI processors, these are the steps that I take:

    • Go to www.ti.com
    • At the top center at Search by Keyword, type in C6454 and click GO
    • On the left, click Active Product Folders to limit the list to the Product Folders and click on the one for your device
    • A datasheet link is at the top, and also a quick link to Technical Documents, or you can scroll down to find the list of technical documents

Some people prefer the click-only method (no typing):

    • Go to www.ti.com
    • In the middle on the left under the major heading Products, click on Digital Signal Processing (DSP)
    • Under Product Tree, select the Processor family, in this case TMS320C645x DSPs
    • Look through the list of features, if needed, to select a processor, or if you already know which one, and click it under Part Number
    • A datasheet link is at the top, and also a quick link to Technical Documents, or you can scroll down to find the list of technical documents

The Application Note "SW Operation of Gigabit Ethernet Media Access Controller on TMS320C645x DSP" not only contains test results for the GigE EMAC, but also provides a link to the actual software used for the App Note. This is an excellent report that was written with designs like yours in mind.

The Datasheet and EMAC User's Guide will be the appropriate documents to address the voltage specifications for the GMII port. The operating conditions will be detailed in the datasheet for this device.

If the App Note does not make a distinction between the two interfaces, then the EMAC User's Guide may give you a little more insight into performance differences, if any. If EMI/EMC are addressed, that would be in these documents and possibly the "High-Speed DSP Systems Design Reference Guide", also included here.

We sometimes list specific devices in the User Guides and App Notes, but a very good place to look is also in the documentation for the Evaluation Modules (EVM) that are listed after the Technical Documents.
