OMAP5910: Problem writing flash because of external reset.

Part Number: OMAP5910

Dear Sir/Madam:

I have a device with a failed firmware update.  I am unable to correct the problem because of an external reset signal.  I was able to retrieve a good know image from its back up device, but these devices must always have a backup.  And now we a running on one only.  The device has an Omap5910 with a Spansion flash module.  The reset signal timing is about 24 seconds, from what I have read the maximum Omap watchdog time is 19.57 sec.  It also features a Altera Cyclone III, and I believe there is a watchdog signal coming from this device to reset the mpu upon hang-up condition.  This leaves me unable to write the image to this device to get it back up and running.  Unfortunately the schematic for this board is under NDA.  Currently our county has no contract with its vendor and would be required to do so at a great expense.  I was instructed to update the firmware of this device and it subsequently failed, leaving us in a bad situation.  What I would like to know is if there is any way to disable the external reset pin or prolong it long enough to get the image wrote back to the flash chip.  I have no problems disabling onboard watchdogs and setting the flash writeable, but cannot get past the external reset.  From reading the data sheets, I have not seen a suitable strategy to do this.  It would seem to me that this type of situation would have come up in the past that is why I am reaching out to TI.  Please  help keep me from under the "bus tires".  I will be happy to provide more in formation if needed.

Sincerely

Mike
