AM6548: ethernet issue

Hello,

First off, please note that there have been many updates to the AM65x PRU Ethernet firmware and driver throughout 2022. We do not suggest using SDK 8.0 for your production code. SDK 8.2 has many code fixes, and SDK 8.6 (planned for the end of March 2023) will have many additional improvements.

What hardware are you using? (i.e., a TI EVM board, a custom board, etc?)

Hi Nick,

we are using our own board and after serveral reboots, the static ip ping failed.

please refer to the log I attached.

from journalctl.log we can find several static ping failures, and two of them I did the reg dump：firmware_reg_dump1.txt and firmware_reg_dump1.txt

Actually, we found this issue still exists on sdk8.6 version, same phenomenon as before: after several reboots, static ping failed.

Please provide the URL link to both the kernel and firmware that you are using.

TI has not yet released SDK 8.6. The latest publicly released PRU Ethernet firmware (02_02_11_02) was released for AM64x SDK 8.5 here: https://git.ti.com/cgit/processor-firmware/ti-linux-firmware/tree/ti-pruss?h=ti-linux-firmware

I am still checking with the team to see if there is a more recent draft of the SDK 8.6 PRU Ethernet firmware that I can share before the SDK 8.6 release.

Everything we use is described in https://github.com/siemens/meta-iot2050/tree/master/recipes-kernel/linux and https://github.com/siemens/meta-iot2050/blob/master/recipes-bsp/ti-pruss-firmware/ti-pruss-firmware_08.06.00.004.bb (not Yocto, but it should be easily understandable for anyone familiar with it). More background on the latest update and the still present issue was recorded in https://github.com/siemens/meta-iot2050/pull/411.

I a nutshell, we diff'ed all prueth-related files (driver + subsystem dependencies) against your linux-ti kernel tree and ensured that those are (almost) identical by pulling the missing commits into our patch queue. Then we also aligned the prueth firmware binaries.

Note that we already started a direct discussion with your experts, Nishanth and Sriram are aware of this issue.

I just got a bleeding-edge PRU Ethernet firmware drop and Linux driver patch, and sent it to your TI representative Frank W. This code is NOT final, and may continue to change before the SDK 8.6 release. But you can reach out to him if you want to test the latest.

The latest is now in the AM64x Linux SDK 8.6 release. Note that the PRU firmware and Linux driver may have additional updates between now and the AM65x Linux SDK 8.6 release in about a month.
