DRA821U: Support bringing up MCU safety island R5 cores from Linux with official SDK

Part Number: DRA821U
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DRA821

Hey,

After discussions between TI/Hitachi I'm bringing this to the official forums, we are in the process of evaluating the Jacinto DRA821/829 processor families and as part of this we are looking at data transfer rates and system design possibilities.

One major step in this process is the bring up of all the cores and loading of custom applications on them.

However our RnD team have faced the issue that the Safety Island R5 cores are not bootable from Linux, after some discussion in a weekly technical meeting between Hitachi and TI Stanley Liu suggested that there could be some residue issues from the boot process.

More detailed summary, we are using the latest SDK on TI development boards (right now 829 boards, awaiting delivery of 821 boards).

We are using TI Linux image out of the box, and are able to use the R5's in the main Island, however when we are trying to load the R5's of the safety MCU island this fails, see related DMESG log message:

[    9.872440] platform 41000000.r5f: R5F core may have been powered on by a different host, programmed state (0) != actual state (1)

[   10.052438] platform 41000000.r5f: configured R5F for IPC-only mode

So question here is what needs to be changed to bring up these R5's in a mode where we can instead of IPC load our custom application?

Appreciate the support.

Br,

C-O V.
