Hello,

My Building Automation customer Fortune Brands had the following questions about a transfer of Sitara devices:

Can TI provide a brief explanation / bullet points on the complexity/challenges/process of porting embedded code from the AM3352BZCZA100 to the TI AM62x family of processors? Is this migration something other TI customers have done successfully? If so, roughly how long did the migration take for other customers?

I was wondering if you had any insights here? Have you helped customers in the past make this transition successfully? I do not have exact opportunity numbers here, but have reason to believe is substantial since Fortune is our largest revenue driver.

Hello,

In terms of porting embedded code, it depends on what your customer is trying to port. If it's a firmware/Kernel driver then the complexity could be significant if the HW IP changed between two SoCs. If they are porting a user space application code then the customer simply has to recompile their application code. Here is an example with the GPU application: https://dev.ti.com/tirex/content/am62x_academy_9_00_00_00_v2/_build_am62x_academy_9_00_00_00_v2/source/linux/ch-develop/dev-gpu-porting-guide.html. I took a QT application from AM335x, recompiled with 64bit toolchain and now it runs on AM62x. The reason why it was easy to recompile because it was c++ code and all the GPU drivers/firmware were abstracted away from the application.

In summary, the complexity will vary based on the layers you are trying to port. It would be helpful to understand what the customer means when they refer to "embedded code".
