Please refer below inputs i received:

Serial NAND on K2G is not supported. The IP version used is the version that was available prior to Serial NAND availability in the market and we have only supported NOR flash with the IP. No characterization and timing analysis was done with OSPI NAND

 QSPI IP doesn`t limit the capacity of flash to be connected. The size limitation in the TRM is primarily for direct addressing mode where we have dedicated space in our memory map for directly accessing QSPI flash content. Serial NAND access is protocol based. We don`t support direct flash access with serial NAND. No HW IP for handling ECC so customers will need some SW based ECC mechanism.

 Please recommend customer to use parallel NAND or Serial NOR or eMMC with K2G.

I understand that parallel NAND cannot be connected with K2G's GPMC, but is it possible to connect with something other than GPMC?

We did descope GPMC NAND from K2G due to some instability.

Looking at old E2E thread I the instability may be with the ECC.

I could not find more from the WEBS or old emails from 2018 other than TI decided not to debug the issue.

 My thoughts from 2024 are… perhaps with the availability of internal ECC NAND these days, we could work around this ECC instability issue. But I’m not sure if ROM will support disabling ECC (like AM335x does). I’m not able to investigate this further.

We need to recommend something other than GPMC NAND… especially if it is used for boot.

So that leaves Serial NOR or eMMC (expensive and too large) for K2G. Maybe GPMC NOR is an option?

Based on the answer we received, the customer decided to exclude SPI NAND and GPMC-connected NAND from our consideration this time.
They are considering SPI NOR Flash and eMMC as candidates.

Regarding eMMC booting, we are currently checking the feasibility of the following thread. Depending on the results of this, we think we will go with NOR FLASH.
