AM69: Programming R5F core.

Part Number: AM69
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CCSTUDIO, , TDA4VL

Tool/software:

Hi,

I am using AM69 processor for one of my project. In that, is it possible to run our own RTOS based application in the R5F core. If possible, then what is the solution for programming the R5F core of the SOC?. And I can see in some of your forum that, the R5F shall only support the code which is provided by TI.

Thanks and regards

  • Hi Sreejith,

As you have seen on our forums, the R5Fs on the AM69 SOC are closed for TI-provided software only.

Based on your planned end product, we suggest you consult your local TI sales representative for guidance on the device to use for your project.

    Thanks.

  • Hi Praveen,

Thank you for your response. My requirement is to render an image using the R5F core and perform inter-process communication with the A72 core. Is it possible to do this? I am unable to find the device in CCStudio. Are there any other software options available for writing programs on the AM69? Please help me in resolving these issues.

    Thank you in advance.

  • Hi Sreejith,

Specifically for AM69, you will not be able to run any custom code on the R5F core even to perform inter-process communication. Consider a different device for your project if you require custom programs for R5F core.

    Thanks,

  • Hi Neehar,

Thank you for your response. I appreciate it. If it is the AM69A, is there any possibility to use the R5F core for custom code? Because on the website, under the parameter section, I can see that the operating systems supported by the AM69A are Linux, QNX, and FreeRTOS. If this is not possible, could you please suggest any other SoC with similar features that can use the R5F core of the SoC?.

What about TDA4VL?. is it possible to use R5F cores?.

    Thanks and Regards

  • Hi Sreejith,

If it is the AM69A, is there any possibility to use the R5F core for custom code?

Similar to AM69, we do not support customer running custom code on the R5F core of AM69A. The R5F cores are solely meant to run firmware images which are packaged within the Linux SDK.

What about TDA4VL?. is it possible to use R5F cores?.

Yes, it is possible to write your own custom code and drivers to run on R5F core of TDA4VL. For more information about choosing a device, we suggest reaching out to your local TI sales representative for guidance.

    Thanks,

    Neehar
