PROCESSOR-SDK-AM335X: What is different between "processor-sdk-09.01.00-config.txt" and "processor-sdk-09.01.00-legacy-config.txt"

Part Number: PROCESSOR-SDK-AM335X

Tool/software:

Hi expert

I built a AM335x "tisdk-base-image" and "tisdk-core-bundle binaries" with "processor-sdk-09.01.00-config.txt".
accoring to "">software-dl.ti.com/.../Overview_Building_the_SDK.html".

Building was complete and binaries were successfully produced.

But, after that I found "">software-dl.ti.com/.../Release_Specific_Yocto_layer_Configuration.html" which uses "processor-sdk-09.01.00-legacy-config.txt".

What is different between "processor-sdk-09.01.00-legacy-config.txt" and "processor-sdk-09.01.00-config.txt"?

Should I use 'processor-sdk-09.01.00-legacy-config.txt' for the building?

Best Regards,
Katsuyama

  • Hi Katsuyama-san,

What is different between "processor-sdk-09.01.00-legacy-config.txt" and "processor-sdk-09.01.00-config.txt"?

The 'legacy' configs are used for some of the more older devices like AM335x and AM437x. They carry specific changes to support those devices, and they should be used when building Yocto images for those devices. In general, please always use the specific *-config.txt file as indicated in a given SDK documentation to build the official targets for a given device. While other configurations may allow successful builds too (as you experienced), this doesn't mean that those builds will be full-featured or fully-functional, as this is not what is tested and qualified for release at TI.

What is different between "processor-sdk-09.01.00-legacy-config.txt" and "processor-sdk-09.01.00-config.txt"?

If you really want to understand this you could look at/compare those config files, and see which git trees use a different commit ID. And then clone those trees manually, and compare them (e.g., using `git diff <commit ID tree from config 1> <commit ID from config 2>`). But you shouldn't really need to do this; please stick to the official/validated config as outlined above.

    Thanks, Andreas

  • Hi, Andreas

    I understand.

    I'll rebuild the binaries.

    Thank you very much.
