AM4378: Kernel Panic due to RTC

Part Number: AM4378

Tool/software:

Customer has an issue seeing Kernel Panic caused by RTC, similar to this thread here: https://e2e.ti.com/support/processors-group/processors/f/processors-forum/475372/am4376-with-omap-l3-error

Disabling the RTC in devicetree files worked as a solution. However, this requires a kernel patch from the customer and they are wondering if there is a more elegant way to disable the RTC other than removing it completely from the devicetree. Also was curious why this might only impact some but not all of the boards.

Any input appreciated.

  • Hello Brian,

First off, is the customer actually using an RTC? If so, what RTC are they using?

What version of Linux are they using?

Updating the Linux devicetree file is not the same as a patch to the kernel drivers. I would expect that EVERY customer will eventually need to modify the Linux devicetree file to customize the Linux devicetree to their specific board design.

    Regards,
