DVTB using for DaVinci Dm36x

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LINUXDVSDK-DM36X

I am writing in order to clarify one moment concerning DVTB for DaVinci family, especially DM36x.

On the page http://software-dl.ti.com/dsps/dsps_public_sw/sdo_sb/targetcontent/dvsdk/DVSDK_4_00/latest/index_FDS.html, where it is possible to download DVTB, it is said "This release only supports Ubuntu 10.04 LTS 32-bit as your development host", what does this exactly mean? Where do I have to have Ubuntu - on PC that I use to develop the whole project? There were no mentions of Ubuntu previously in all documentations about DaVinci 36x and its Evaluation Board (System-on-Chip - Linux, OS on my PC - Windows XP).

How helpful is DVTB? Can I replace it with something?

P.S. Please, note that those link to download was found on the page http://www.ti.com/tool/linuxdvsdk-dm36x, where said that this is "Linux Digital Video Software Development Kit (DVSDK) for DM365, DM368 Digital Media Processors"!

I would really appreciate your help! Thanks in advance.

  • Well, its only for this release you have to install Ubuntu virtual machine(http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/How_to_Build_a_Ubuntu_Linux_host_under_VirtualBox).

  • If I got all documentation right (and with your answer also) I can't use another distribution kit of Linux apart from Ubuntu 10.04 LTS.

But this is a kinda strange -  why can't we use for example Debian or others. The problem of installing Ubuntu is that the administrative policy in our company concerning software is to make all kinds of programs and OSs as less diverse as possible.

And I would be really grateful if anybody could explain   how helpful is DVTB? I mean can we do without it. And can we replace it with something within Windows?

    Thanks in advance!
