How does Medical Imaging for C66X compare to an FGPA for Cubic Spline Interpolation for OCT and FFT and IFFT for OCT for cost and calculation time.

For one of my smart customers I need a smart answer:

The http://www.ti.com/tool/s2meddus TI’s Software Tool Kit for Medical Imaging for C66X. How does this compare to an FGPA for Cubic Spline Interpolation for OCT and FFT and IFFT for OCT for cost and calculation time.

Thank you!

  • Hi Guido

The cycle count numbers for interpolation, FFT and IFFT, and other STK-MED modules run on C66x DSP, are provided in the datasheets in STK-MED. We provide the numbers from the DSP side only. However, we do provide the source code and test vectors as part of the STK-MED download, so customers can look at those and ensure that they compare apples-to-apples if they choose to implement and evaluate the algorithm modules on an FPGA. In general, DSPs offer a fully programmable solution in a high level language (C, C++) which gives more flexibility than an FPGA solution.
