AM6442: AM6442 & AM243x Compatibility

Part Number: AM6442
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: SYSCONFIG, TPS65220, TPS65219, AM6412, AM6422, AM2434, TMDS64EVM, SK-AM64B, BOOSTXL-IOLINKM-8, TMDS243EVM, TMDS243DC01EVM, TMDS64DC01EVM, LP-AM243, BP-AM2BLDCSERVO

I would like to request your support in confirming the hardware compatibility between the AM6442 and AM243x processors for our upcoming design.

We are planning to design our hardware such that it can support both processors.

Based on our analysis:

  • We found that AM6442 and AM243x are pin‑to‑pin and footprint compatible.
  • Power sequencing requirements are also matched for both processors
  • We reviewed the pin assignments using the SysConfig tool and found no pin‑function conflicts.
  • The primary differences appear to be in the core architecture (A53 vs. R5F‑only) and associated software/OS support.

Based on the above, our preliminary conclusion is that both processors can be supported on the same hardware design.

We kindly request your confirmation on the following points:

  1. Could you please confirm whether AM6442 (AM64x family) and AM243x can be used on the same hardware design when using the same package (e.g., ALV 441‑pin), assuming software is adjusted accordingly?
  2. Since the power‑sequencing requirements of AM6442 and AM243x are aligned, we would like to confirm whether the same PMIC (TPS6522053) used in the AM6442 EVM can also be used to power the AM243x processor.

If possible, please share TI‑recommended PMIC guidelines for dual‑compatibility designs.

  1. It would be helpful if you could share any specific guidelines or checklist that we must consider while implementing a design meant to support both processors.
  2. We would also like clarification regarding GPIO interrupt support:
  • Do all GPIOs on AM6442 and AM243x support interrupt capability, or only certain banks/pins?
  • Could you please provide guidance on how to identify interrupt‑capable GPIOs on both processors?
