TMDSEVML138 TFTP & NFS Hang

I have the TMDSEVML138 kit and it works fine with SD for kernel and filesystem.  I've been able to get it to work with TFTP and NFS but it seems to randomly hang and often doesn't complete the boot up.  If I cycle power, after a few tries it works just fine (for a while at least).

Sometimes, if minicom is connected, I'll see this message after a while of no output:

nfs: server 192.168.1.142 not responding, still trying

I'm using Ubuntu 10.04 LTS on Virtual box.  The network interface is bridged and gets an IP with DHCP.  The eval board is connected to the router and also gets an IP with DHCP.  I can run continuous ping on both from the windows host and the ping's do not time out when the board hangs.  I tried SD for filesystem and TFTP for kernal, but that would hang too.  Any suggestions?
