power consumption with different frequencies

Guru 20755 points

Hello,

We measured the pwoer consumption when changing between minimum and maximum frequency (125000 to 600000), but we see that the power consumption is the same.

Is it possible that there is no change in power consumption in these scenarios ?

Regards,

Ran

  • Are you talking about the arm A8 frequency from 125~600MHz?
One thing I will suggest you check if the frequency change is successful or not.
How is the power been measured? The power consumption is quite dynamic, if you only measures the current display from a DC power source, it may display an average value.
  • Hi Eason,

    We made more testing.

    1. We saw using the statitics that the change was done :

cat /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/scaling_cur_frequency that the frequency changed, we did not made any testing of frequency on board

    2. We noticed that the current was lowered in  ~0.04 A (for 13.4 voltage input) onlt if we don't use sleep mode (retention) at all, so it gives about ~400milliwatt saving

    3. The retention mode also seems to save ~400milliwat (compare to version without sleep mode).

    4. When we do both retention and only then try to change frequency from 600000 to 125000 we did not notice any change.

Does (4) above make sense ?
