C64XX Silicon Revision Clarifications

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TMS320C6416

I need to verify the differences, if any, of the "C", "D", and "E" variants of the C6414 and C6415 devices.

The silicon errata sprz011t.pdf, page 9, indicates that "C" is rev 1.03, "D" is 1.1, and "E" is 2.0.

However, I have devices labelled "C20" and "D20", which according to the same page, are Silicon Rev 2.0 devices.  The internal memory of the device confirms that they are rev 2.0.

So, what do the "C", "D", and "E" identifiers refer to?

  • Hi MKEEFE,

The top-side markings and device nomenclature are a little confusing at times so hopefully we can clear this up.

The silicon revision letters 'C,' 'D,' and 'E' are added to the end of the orderable part number (e.g., TMS320C6416CGLZ7E3, TMSC6416DGLZ7E3, etc.). It does not always show up on the top-side marking itself - this is where the numbers you mentioned come in handy.

The devices C20 and D20 should both be rev 2.0 or 'E' silicon. I am not sure what the 'C' in C20 specifies, but it does not have to do with the silicon revision. I believe it is some sort of internal identifier, but its purpose is unknown to me.

Sorry I cannot be of more help with that identifier, but rest assured that these are rev 2.0 parts.
