Development kit for DSP project

Hi,

I am looking for some suggestions/guidance for developing a DSP project. For this project, I will need a DSP processor (possibly C5000 series or something else), A/D converters, a power supply and I need to also intend leverage the purepath wireless technology using for example the CC8531.

What is the best way to combine these components hopefully in a development kit format to enable the most rapid prototyping of my project?

Jon,

What exactly will your DSP project do? Do you need PurePath or can you also use BLE?
Please take a look at the C5545 Booster Pack www.ti.com/.../BOOST5545ULP. This board has a CC2650 BLE chip along with the C5545 DSP.

Hi,

Thanks for the response. I need to do some audio processing and send the audio via a wireless link to wireless earbuds or headphones. I need lowest latency possible (and quality) so bluetooth won't be acceptable. As I understand, purepath is unencoded and offers latency as low as 10 msec. Bluetooth is significantly higher latency.

Any thoughts?

I'm not familiar with the CC8531, but here are some thoughts.

I took a quick look at the Pure path headset reference design www.ti.com/.../cc85xxdk-headset-rd Documents looking at www.ti.com/.../swru281.pdf there is a P7 header on the back of the board that will give you access to the I2S signals.

The C5545BP www.ti.com/.../sprr233.pdf has I2S1 on headerJ7.
This could perhaps be a way to pipe I2S data between the 2 boards? So, essentially you will have the following:

--> CC8531 > C5545 > codec -->

Just a throwing some ideas. You will have to take a closer look and decide if this approach works for your design. Importantly, please ensure that you look through the coexistence application notes.
Keep in mind that Pure Path support is not available on e2e, however the purepath wireless studio along with documentation on TI.com should be enough to get going.

If instead of using the boards, if I were to use the individual chips, is it possible to couple them together using a breadboard design?

Jon,

This would be difficult as the chips themselves are BGA and would need a special breakout for a breadboard. I would suggest sticking to EVMs as much as possible to avoid problems.
