TMS320C6415T: Need Ethernet chipset to interface to the TMS320C6415T

Part Number: TMS320C6415T
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TM4C129XNCZAD, DP83816, DP83815

Hello,

I have an existing design using the TMS320C6415T and I need to add an Ethernet  capability  to this design. I already have 3 TMS320C5510s connected to one of the EMIFs. What chip / chipset would be easiest to integrate into the design that would support Ethernet?

Thanks!!

Greg

  • Greg,

You may need to consider using Ethernet controller (probably EMAC+PHY) to add the Ethernet capability into your design. This controller would have parallel IO bus to interface with the C6415 device.
  • Greg,

You might also consider the TM4C129XNCZAD. It has an ARM Cortex-M4F core @ 120MHz with an Ethernet MAC+PHY integrated into it. It might not be the lowest cost solution (~$10 in 1k pricing) but it might be one of the easiest solutions. It could let you replace one of the C5510s, but that could add too much complexity to the effort.

We also offer the DP83815 and DP83816 that are more along the lines of what Senthil was recommending, integrated MAC+PHY. These would connect to the C6415T using the PCI bus. If you need pretty high speed data paths, these would likely do a better job for you than the TM4C129.
