Thanks for your post. There is nothing really TI specific here and thus is really beyond the scope of what we support.
You will likely use a GPIO to implement the switch. I would encourage you to look at the gpio-switch Linux interface which leverages sysfs to interact with switches from userspace. Once you can read the switch, or get an interrupt, running a python script should be pretty straightforward.
