Hi,

I will be using AM5718. It has a GbE switch subsystem. I will be porting Linux OS into AM5718.

My requirement is to have two 10/100 ethernet ports for AM5718... PHYs to be used is DP83848-EP....

1. one ethernet port will be standard ethernet port

2. Other one would be used for onboard MAC-to- MAC communication....

i will not be utilizing the switch functionality.

Can I configure Ethernet Subsystem as two separate emacs??

Does Linux allow such a configuration??

Can I have separate MAC IDs for both?? MAC to MAC communication needs to have a fixed MAC id

For CPSW i see a dual standalone emac mode

is this the mode to be operated so that I could get 2 independent Ethernet ports??...

How different is this mode from having two separate emac core?? any drawbacks/difference....

Also to clarify ""MAC to MAC communication"" i mean
Board1_MAC1 <---->Board1_PHY <--->Board2_PHY<--->Board2_MAC2

Hi Rakesh,
By enabling Dual MAC mode you will be disabling the switch functionality. Both ports will operate independently. Both ports will have unique MAC_ID's. I believe this is what you want.
