66AK2G12: TIDA-01414

Part Number: 66AK2G12
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TIDA-01414, PCM9211

Dear Sir/Ms.

Customers refer to our TIDA-01414 Reference design.
However, the customer's product specifications are as follows

1. Only 3 speakers, 100W, 93dB
2. Input HDMI In (eARC function) *1, SPDIF *1 (OPT + COAX)
3. Output HDMI Out *1 to TV
3. Need to support ATMOS

Because the datsheet specification on the 66aK2G webpage is not complete, I would like to ask the following question, TIDA-01414 Reference design question

1. Does the 66aK2G support HDMI IN? and has an eACR function?
2. Does 66aK2G  support SPDIF?
3. Dose 66aK2G  support HDMI output to TV?

If you do not have the eACR support function, can 66aK2G  connect the PCM9211, and support function what requested by the customer?
If the 66AK2G does not have the functionality required by the customer, can you suggest external parts?

Best Regards,

Kami Huang

  • Hi Kami,

Thanks for your inquiry about our TI Design and the K2G processor.  One of my colleagues will address your I/O questions above, and I will address your "Need to support ATMOS" requirement.

You and your customer may already be aware of  this but the customer must first qualify with Dolby to be an ATMOS licensee.  TI cannot provide any ATMOS enabled silicon or software until that license is in place.  Second, the customer should engage with our Third Party Software vendor, Path Partner, for software support of any TI-based ATMOS solution. Please find here the PathPartner contact information: Ramkishor.korada@PathPartnertech.com.

    Regards,

    Debbie

  • Kami,

In addition to the TI design soundbar card referred to in the TI Design, we also provide a multi-channel audio daughter card with our GP evaluation platform that allows users to use SPDIF input and output  and optical input configuration and also provided the option analog eight channel input and 16 channel analog output.

For HDMI Input and output, we provide a performance audio sample code that demonstrates use of the performance audio framework without use of proprietary IPs from Dolby or DTS. The Setup uses a HDMI repeater card from MDS as indicated in the demo requirements here:

    http://software-dl.ti.com/processor-sdk-rtos/esd/docs/latest/rtos/index_examples_demos.html#id40

MDS also offers a APM module using K2G SOC which supports Dolby Atmos software as you can check from their website

    K2G based APM module:

https://0395410.netsolhost.com/mds/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/APM-datasheet-2nd-Gen-Rev5.pdf  (Provides SPDIF and HDMI IO )

If HDMI is required for display the base GP EVM uses HDMI connector which is connected to the display sub system pins. I am not sure that it supports the eACR function so I will need to check on that and get back to you.

    Regards,

    Rahul

  • Hello Rahul,

Thank you very much for your reply. Please help us to confirm how to achieve the eACR function. This is a must in the customer's specifications. Please reply to us as soon as possible. I will give the customer an answer as soon as possible after discussing with the Taiwan FAE.

    Best Regards,

    Kami Huang

  • Hello Kami,  this is Chuck from MDS.

We supply HDMI solutions and I believe you are asking about "eARC".  Our latest solutions support eARC.  Can I suggest that you email "contactsales@mds.com" to open a channel for discussion.  We have products that integrate the K2G Atmos solution with full HDMI support in complete systems and we'll be very happy to discuss how to meet your needs.

  • Hello Chuck,

    Thanks for your reply.

In addition, customers seem to be able to use APM-103, but did not see the HDMI I / O interface in the block diagram
So is it necessary to hang another HDMI Receiver chip?

    Best Regards,

    Kami Huang

  • Indeed, the HDMI function in our system is provided by a separate "HSR" repeater module.  The repeater handles the selection of multiple inputs, routing to outputs, and compliance with applicable specifications such as HDCP, CEC and eARC.  The example software fully integrates the HDMI features with the audio features.

  • Hello Chuck,

Would you please give me relate data of HSR module? My customer ask about it.

    My Email is kami.huang@arrowasia.com .

    Best Regards,

  • You can make the request directly to contactsales@mds.com, or I'll make sure we get something to you tomorrow.
